How To Add Warmth To Your Kitchen:

1. Vintage Rugs

This is my favorite kitchen design trend. I love vintage, from furnishings to home accessories and what better way to warm up a kitchen with a vintage rug. They will bring in color and tone down all the bright white walls or cabinets. I like to add a cushioned rug pad underneath my vintage rugs and then it feels oh so good under your feet, especially if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

2. Open “natural” Shelving

If you have read my other posts on styling a console table or nightstand, I always like to add something natural / organic and the same thing goes for kitchens. We all know that open shelving is a hit in the design world, but opt for wood and if you can, recycled or repurposed wood. It can be used as floating shelving in any part of your kitchen.

3. Natural Wood Island / Countertop /  Oven Hood

Again, adding natural wood to your kitchen will add the perfect elements of warmth. You can use butcher block on your island countertop or opt for a wood island. I have seen some great designs that have added re-purposed wood to the oven hood. LOVE IT! Good bye to the massive stainless steel hood.

4. Add Art

Now, let’s say you already redid your kitchen and you need some go-to tips to bring in warmth. Well, add art. We tend to forget that we can add art to our kitchen walls or shelves. And if you do not have any wall space, then layer in some art on your new open shelving.

5. Add Textiles

This is my favorite tip and I have implemented it in my own kitchen. I have a bench in my kitchen that I upholstered in a textured vinyl, then I add a bunch of pillows. Warms up the space immediately. Also, go ahead and add a rug under your kitchen table or a roman shade to the window.

    1. We are remodeling our kitchen and dining area and after seeing your post, we have found exactly what we want to do to modernize yet keep it warm and cozy the kitchen and dining area. We love your blog so keep all the wonderful ideas coming. Thank you for sharing such beautiful and economic ways to make our home more inviting.

    2. Could u tell me where to purchase the grayish pedestal table in the photo with a large clock on the wall. It is shown with white chairs.
      Thank you

      1. Barbara,

Did you ever find the grey table? I too love this table and am searching for it.

    3. Love the idea of a vintage rug or any stylish rug in the kitchen. However, it would be dirty in a weeks time and costly to clean or maintain. Food and grease splatter would ruin a great rug in know time. Maybe I’m just a messy cook? Still. I may do a rug that’s cheaper than vintage so it won’t be too much a monetary loss if it needs to get cleaned or tossed a year or 2 down the road

    4. I like that you mentioned that it would be best to add natural elements because it will give your area warmth while ensuring that it is still in style. With that in mind, I will be choosing natural-styled decorations since we are in a cold area of the country. We just thought that it would be great to choose this kind of decor because our house is quite cold ever since our children have had their own families.

    5. Kitchen is one of the best part for your home. So it is important that you can select the best kitchen flooring material, kitchen cabinet and appliances for the kitchen. And to add warmth to your kitchen you should follow some important tips. First point is you should use copper pots as copper add wonderful patina and shine to your kitchen. There should be a fireplace. Also there should be a farm table and need brighter light so use LED light.

    6. My wife and I are remodeling our kitchen and have been looking for tips on how to make it feel more inviting. I like that you use open shelving for a more natural, organic feel. I think having things displayed openly makes the kitchen feel more lively so we might have to try this. Thanks for sharing!

    7. I really like the idea of using a vintage rug for the kitchen. Most of the time kitchens are generally bare with just tile or linoleum, but adding a rug might make it seem a little more homelike. We’re thinking about doing some renovations to the kitchen so we’ll have to consider your kitchen tips later on!

    8. I like how you suggested adding natural wood to your kitchen. It was helpful that you included how you can opt for a wooden island, or add a re-purposed oven hood. My sister recently moved into a home that was designed in the 1960’s. She has been wanting to remodel the kitchen to be more modern. It could be a good option for her to implement natural wood into her designs.

    9. It’s the wood that adds warmth, however some things take it away like the white subway tiles or too much starck white pieces.
