I am a die-hard fall and winter girl. Give me sweaters and boots over tanks and sandals any day! I love everything about the colder months…except dry skin. Once the dry cool air starts coming in, my skin can turn dry and itchy overnight and conventional lotions don’t do much to help relieve the dryness. It can be pretty miserable.
Believe me, I have tried every lotion and cream on the market and none were really cutting it. They either didn’t give my skin the moisture it needed, or it wore off too soon, or it gave me an allergic reaction (thanks, super sensitive skin). So I really needed to come up with a solution for dry skin on my own and I am so happy to share with you this incredibly easy and, most importantly, incredibly effective Whipped Body Butter!
Whipped Body Butter for Sensitive Skin:
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
- Essential oils of your choice
- Glass measuring cup and a pot
- Hand mixer
- Clean glass jar
Step 1: First you’ll add the shea butter, coconut oil and sweet almond oil to a glass measuring cup. Place the measuring cup in a pot of water (the water needs to come up only about halfway) and bring the water to a gentle boil. Once the water is boiling, turn it down just a little to make sure no water gets into the measuring cup. Melt all the oils together.
Step 2: Once your oils are melted, mix it up with a spoon, transfer the mixture to a clean bowl and set in the fridge for about an hour to cool and harden just a little.
Step 3: After the oil mixture has hardened slightly, add your essential oils. I used a combination of peppermint (15-20 drops), wild orange (10-15 drops), rosemary (3-5 drops) and clove (2-3 drops) for a fall inspired scent. Start out with less as you can always add more as you go. It’s much like adding sugar to your coffee: just put a little in at a time until you get the perfect amount.
It is such a simple process and it makes a lot of body butter! I’m telling you, this body butter is so moisturizing and so good for your skin but it is light and fluffy and goes on so smooth. A little goes a long way so it will last you a good while, too! I keep my butter in a sealed jar on my bathroom counter and it does just fine.
These whipped body butter gifts would also make amazing Christmas gifts! Just wrap a pretty bow or simple piece of twine around the neck of the jar and you have yourself a beautiful and inexpensive gift. Christmas = DONE!
