March will be our 1 year anniversary in this house already! I can’t believe it is almost here. We love this home and it has quickly become my favorite home I have ever lived in.
When we built it, I had it in mind that it needed to be a blank slate so I could come in and do all the things I was dreaming up.
I wanted every wall and cabinet white. All the tile work and flooring as neutral as possible.
But with that, it has made the house feel a bit cold.
So, I have come up with a list of all the things I would like to get accomplished for our home in 2019 and I would love to go over my ideas with you and see if you have any suggestions too.

My design plans for our home:
1. Crown for our breakfast room ceiling
Last month we added reclaimed wood planks to our breakfast room ceiling. You can read all about how we installed them HERE.
Though they look amazing, I stare at this space and still feel like it is not finished and I think I feel that way because of the edge to the sheer wall.
It is an exposed edge and I think it needs a finished edge with some moulding. But I think moulding just on this one spot would not look good so I think we need to do crown around the whole perimeter of the ceiling.
2. Repaint living room fireplace
This one just makes me crazy. If you have been following me for awhile then you know what happened here in the fall.
I had the kitchen island and the fireplace painted. I picked a paint color and the painter refused to sample it.
The taped everything off but then did not prep the surfaces correctly. They did not sand or caulk any seams.
AND they used the wrong paint (they used a latex paint). So the finish is gritty and feels like sand paper.
The color is also completely off and turns mint green at certain times of the day.
I have now lived with it for 4 months and it just is not right. It has to get redone.
3. Repaint kitchen island
Need I say anymore from goal #2. These two spaces are going to take top priority for me this year.
4. Add hardware to kitchen cabinets
The saying goes that hardware and lighting in the home is the jewelry and it is so true.
Our cabinets have been bare these last 7 months and that will be changing soon.
Finally I picked this cup pull and this knob and will be having them installed in the next couple of weeks. The only reason I didn’t do it sooner is because I have commitment issues I swear!
I just couldn’t find what I really wanted. But that changed when we installed the breakfast room curtains and I decided I really loved the polished nickel look of this hardware we selected.
Would you like to save this post?
5. Replace light fixture in living room
My husband is going to kill me because he loves having a ceiling fan in our living rooms. I mean we lie in Texas and the summers can be really brutal here.
BUT I think they are so ugly and it just has to go.
I already picked this black iron chandelier and I just need to schedule the installers to hang it. These are crazy high ceilings so I need to hire someone to do it.
If you are in the market for a piece like this for your home, then this one is currently 28% off and it is HUGE.
5. Upgrade toilet in powder bath
So this is not a necessity but something I want to do since this is the bathroom all our guests use.
It’s not that the toilets we had installed were terrible but they are builder grade and cheap looking.
I want to give this room a major upgrade and I’m starting here.
6. Powder bath makeover
So as I mentioned above this is my next room makeover to tackle.
I will be sharing my design plans for it soon so you can get an idea of what I am thinking of doing.
I still love the flooring in here so other than replacing the toilet and upgrading the faucet, the rest is merely cosmetic.
7. Laundry room makeover/operation organization
A while back I shared some design plans for my laundry room makeover. You can take a look at that HERE.
Since then I have met with my contractor and think this might be a bigger renovation than I had originally planned.
My main problem is this is a really small laundry room. I know this is a semi custom home and we built it, so we had a lot of choices on the layout, but I had to sacrifice here to get other things I wanted spatially.
So I really struggle with organization and space in here.
What we are thinking is additional cabinetry will need to be built along with adding a counter top above the washer and dryer which will mean purchasing new ones that are front loaders.
We will need to budget for this space so this may get done more towards the end of the year.
So there you have it! I am sure more will be added to this list but for now these are the main things we will be tackling this year.
So how about you? What are some home “to-do’s” you want to get done in 2019??
