Best Neutral Color Schemes For A Holiday Table
When you think of neutral color schemes, I bet you think of white tones and just a plain look. But there are so many colors that are in the neutral color wheel that you can mix and match.
Neutral tones such as white, beige, ivory, and gray create a subtle yet sophisticated base for your holiday decor. I love to also mix in deeper shades of gray and black for more contrast.
Here are some of my favorite neutral color combos to mix and match.
- White and Gold: The timeless combination of white and gold filled with a luxe and festive feel. White table linens and dinnerware paired with gold accents, such as napkin rings, candles, and centerpieces, create a sophisticated holiday look.
- Silver and Gray: Silver and gray hues provide a sleek and modern holiday table. Combine gray tablecloths or placemats with silver chargers, flatware, and decorative ornaments for a chic and modern feel.
- Black and White: For a modern and striking contrast, use black and white as your color scheme. Black tableware and accents paired with white linens and dinnerware create a bold, minimalist holiday look.
- Earthy Neutrals: Create a rustic and natural look by incorporating earthy neutrals like browns, tans, and greens. Wooden chargers, burlap table runners, and greenery centerpieces lend to this look.
Tips To Create A Christmas Table Setting
There are a few tried and true tips I have for setting a Christmas table easily with designer flare.
First, pick a color scheme that aligns with your theme and the overall decor of your home for the holidays. This will make your Christmas table setting look like it is a part of the rest of your holiday decor and coordinate perfectly.
Also, create a stunning centerpiece as the focal point of your table. This is the main design feature of your table setting that will pull your design together. Consider using a fresh floral arrangement, a collection of candles, decorative holiday pieces, or a beautiful wreath as the centerpiece.
Incorporate natural elements. Bring the outdoors in by using natural elements like pine branches, pinecones, and berries as part of your table decor. Use faux garlands and greenery picks for a longer-lasting Christmas table setting to enjoy throughout the whole season.
Remember that the most important aspect of your Christmas table setting is creating an inviting and warm feel for your guests to enjoy the holiday meal and make memories.

Layer Linens for a Luxe Look
Using a tablecloth and runner, layer these linens to add dimension and contrast to your neutral color scheme. I love to use fabric for the table runner and love going to the fabric department at Hobby Lobby to find unique patterns and colors.
This luxe silver satin fabric gives just a slight contrast to the beige ruffled table linen. I gathered it to create ripples in the fabric for a little whimsical touch.
Use Holiday Garland As An Easy Centerpiece
One of the easiest holiday centerpieces to create is using a beautiful holiday garland. I picked this cedar garland with gold glitter tips to add some sparkle to the center of the table.
I made it look fuller by adding white pearl berry picks and gold mesh ribbon. Just cut 2″ – 3″ strips of the mesh ribbon and tuck the ends loosely through the garland.
Add Holiday Decor To Center Of Table
This is where you can get really creative each year and switch up your theme.
I fell in love with these little light-up white Christmas houses from Hobby Lobby and thought it would be adorable to create a little village feel down the center of the table.
I did this by using four different houses and tucking them back into the garland.
Add Ornaments and Candles To Fill In Holes
Using ornaments and candles, tuck these into any places in your centerpiece where you feel you have some decorative holes, meaning missing items. This fills in any gaps so the branch of the garland is covered. These glitter snowflake ornaments add a little glimmer next to the candles and glass candle holders when they are lit. So pretty!
Layer Dinnerware With A Decorative Charger
Add more sparkle to your table with these gorgeous silver glitter chargers! I used these last year in my Nutcracker table setting and am still obsessed.
There are so many options for chargers at Hobby Lobby if you want something different but you can not go wrong with a little glitz!
Add A Unique Decorative Touch To Plates
Lastly, layer your plates, add your utensils and drinkware, and then place a decorative touch to the center of the plates. I used small eucalyptus picks with more of the white berry picks and some thick black velvet ribbon to tie them together. Just a small detail to tie your design together.
And that’s it my friends! Super simple but full of lots of holiday glam and cheer.
