Sharing our home office ideas on a budget and design plans, including furniture, lighting, accessories, and art for the space! Also highlighting my favorite lighting sources.
Oh, how I have dreamed of a well-organized home office space that was functional and beautiful.
This has been a long time coming and this will be phase 1 of our home office design plans.
Phase 2 (the hardscape portion) will have to wait a bit until we can save up since it will involve some minor construction.
I recently discussed how this is one of my home design plans for the year and really it has taken top priority for me.
I have reference and used some of the design tips from my post on how to decorate a small home office and I have realized that I absolutely can not do my best work until I get this room done.
This is yet another room in the home we made white walls, plain carpeting, and no trim moulding except for baseboards.
I really do take time designing spaces and thinking about how I am going to use them first and what better way then living and working within these walls these last 2 years.
This is what it looked like when we moved in.
This room is located off the entryway right across from the stairway.
It has double glass french doors and two windows that give this room the most beautiful daylight.
It has a little closet that I absolutely need to utilize the space better.
Home Office Ideas on A Budget
I have planned a large cabinet with closed storage on the bottom and open storage on the top.
I need room for office materials like a printer and paper, things for design clients, and book storage.
Not all of that is very pretty to look at so the closed storage will be so good to have.
I want to go with a serene color palette.
Especially since I deal with a lot of colors on a day to day basis, I need to make sure my office colors do not complete with it.
I will be keeping the walls white for now and will be adding textured bamboo shades on the windows.

I love the color of these cabinets in this office and though these are more blue-gray, I think the grey one I selected will give me the same look.
{Grey Cabinet}
The large cabinet I ordered is in a soft gray and I plan on getting new hardware in brushed gold.
I already have a similar cream linen chair and think for now I will keep it.
I am still thinking I might want a leather chair so we will see if I switch it out sooner than later.
Would you like to save this post?
{Campaign Desk}
I love this light-colored wood desk from World Market and it is a popular piece a lot of people have so the reviews are great.
I love that coastal/farmhouse feel so I think it will be a good option for me to get more desk space too.
The desk I currently have is just too small for everything I have.
I love the feel of this office below and they have a similar desk below and mixed with warm grey cabinets gives it a more modern feel.

Lauren loves to come in and hang out if I need to work when she gets home from school, so I want to add something small to give her a place to plop down, read a book, or sit and chat with me.
I would love for it to be small and easy for me to push into a corner if I need a little more space.
I love how this office has a little pouf just for the same reason.

Okay, let’s now talk light fixtures.
I really wanted something casual and beaded but have this wood beaded chandelier in our stairway.
So I wanted to pick something a little different than that.
For the longest time, I was still looking at a cream or white chandelier. . . .until I came across this one.
The beads are smaller and less chunky and I love the striking black color.
I think it will give it a moody modern feel and I just can’t wait!
Lighting to me is the jewelry of a room and something that just has to be amazing to take a room from every day looking to AMAZing.

I also wanted to share some of my favorite sources for affordable lighting.
These are my go-to stores for and typically where I shop for my clients.
I love the wide variety of styles and I can not stress enough how great the price points are!
So here is my final design board for phase 1 of my office makeover.
It is a soft and warm color palette to really let accessories and art shine.
Phase 2 will include brick flooring and possibly shiplap on the wall and ceiling.
I want to add in a lot more texture that way.
Bamboo Shades | Grey Cabinet | Black Beaded Light Fixture | Grey Tufted Ottoman | Campaign Desk | Upholstered Desk Chair | Area Rug
I can’t wait for you to see it and it is all underway already.
It should be done and ready to reveal by the end of February!
