Decorating with Pantone Color of The Year 2018 Ultra Violet can feel intimidating when the color looks too strong, too dark, or doesn’t blend well with your existing home style.
You might feel excited about trying something bold, but get frustrated when you don’t know where or how to start with purple tones.
Some homes look amazing with bold color, but others feel busy fast, especially when the color doesn’t match the mood of your space.
It’s easy to love this color in pictures, but feel unsure about using it in real life without making the room feel too loud.
Even if you like experimenting with color, Ultra Violet can be tricky when furniture, rugs, or wall art do not work well with it.
Finding balance is tough when one color takes over the room and leaves everything else feeling out of place or unfinished.
Still, there’s something beautiful about this color when used in small amounts or layered into neutral rooms that need a fresh new look.
Ultra Violet brings energy, creativity, and depth, which makes it perfect for accents, bold walls, or even a statement piece of furniture.
So, I’m going to share some simple ways to decorate with Ultra Violet, no matter your home style, room size, or comfort level with bold colors.
With a few easy ideas, you can use this 2018 Color of the Year to make your space feel fresh, bold, and well put together!

These hues of ultra violet are gorgeous and totally appropriate if used properly. So let’s dig right in on how you can use them in your home.
How to Decorate with Pantone Color of The Year 2018 Ultra Violet:
1. As an accent wall
Be it one wall or all the walls in a room, ultra violet makes a show stopping statement when added as a wall color. I particularly love it as an accent wall and used in a pass through space like an entry or hallway. Moulding plays a huge part and gives it an architectural detail. Accenting the wall color in an accessory or piece of furniture will give dimension to the color as well.

Using ultra violet in a powder bathroom is a fun twist on a space your guests will see. Use it in a wallpaper in a fun pattern like below for a modern twist and accent it in towels and flowers.

2. Use on a piece of furniture
You can be less daring and use ultra violet in furniture pieces. Use it as the only pop of color in a neutral space to draw the eye into the room. It truly gives an elegant and refined look in this dining room below don’t you think?

Using pillows in the same color and fabric makes this neutral space have a clean modern edge. The silver touches in metal finishes makes this room feel updated and fresh.

Go a few shades darker for a dramatic look. I love the rustic beam work in the dining space below. It tones down the modern edge of the chairs and makes it a lot warmer of a space.

I love in this space how they painted the ceiling the same ultra violet color as the chairs. It really gives it a cohesive look.

3. Use in accessories
If you are still not ready to commit to ultra violet, then I suggest trying it out in some accessories for your home. It is a little less overwhelming and very easy to change in and out of your already existing decor. Some examples of this would be artwork, candles, baskets, pillows and throw blankets. I also have shopped some home accessories for you at the bottom of this post so you can see my recommendations for some accessories in ultra violet.

This bold ultra violet stair runner is whimsical and such a fun color to pop on the stairs! It looks modern with the white edge detail of the stairway and definitely leads your eye upwards.

4. As a guest bedroom/teen bedroom color palette
I absolutely love this color for a guest room and a teen room. I think it gives it a playful sophistication and is cheerful.
I personally would use it in a lighter shade for the bedding (like below) and then pop the richer darker hue in the floor like in a area rug.

I just love the white furniture accents and even the crystal chandelier in this teen room. It still feels youthful and not baby at all.

I love how they accented this kid’s room with artwork and the ultra violet color. Such a fun way to add a personal touch! And talk about a whimsical accent with the lime green chair! Such a fun look to this space.

5. Mixed with turquoise
Mixing a deep turquoise with the ultra violet color definitely brings sophistication to the room. Out of all the colors in the spectrum, this is my favorite color combo. Either use the turquoise on the wall and ultra violet in the furniture or reversed. If selecting turquoise as a wall color, look for one that has a little bit of a purple hue in it.

6. In cabinetry
This might be the riskiest way to use ultra violet but look at how gorgeous it is. The cabinetry below goes into a deeper hue and is in a lacquer. I could see this in a butler’s pantry or other space like a library. It is just gorgeous, accented with gold hardware.

Frequently Asked Questions
The easiest way to decorate with this bold color is by using it in small pieces like throw pillows, vases, rugs, or wall art. This lets you try it out without making a big change and helps your space feel more colorful without going overboard.
You can paint a wall with this color, but it works best in rooms with light furniture and plenty of windows to balance the depth. Keep the other walls and decor neutral so the space still feels open, calm, and not too overwhelming.
Soft neutrals like beige, white, and gray help tone it down and give the room a balanced, natural feel. You can also pair it with gold or silver accents to bring in contrast and a little bit of shine without clashing.
It might feel trendy at first, but when used in small touches, it can stay fresh and stylish even as other trends change. Try mixing it with classic textures like wood, rattan, or natural fabric to help it feel more timeless and easy to live with.
Avoid using it in small or dark rooms where the color might feel too heavy or make the space feel smaller than it is. It looks best in open spaces or bright rooms where there’s enough light to balance out the deep purple tone.

This year’s Pantone color will be such a magical experience! I use mainly flowers for adding some color accents to my home, and there are lovely flower types in ultreviolet hues. I woudn’t stand adding a whole couch i thiscolor, but may be some cushions would work great. Thanks fot the inspiraion!
