It is so easy to be inspired creatively and rejuvenated with new design ideas while traveling abroad. From sitting in the Queen’s park or a french bistro, it was the perfect starting point to picking out my top 5 essentials for the perfect summer table. Summer is my favorite season because I get to host outdoor parties that include creating the perfect summer table. My home is not that large for hosting many friends and family, so I love to have the opportunity to take the parties outdoors and enjoy an evening or Sunday brunch with my girlfriends. Now, just because I am outside doesn’t mean I will forego setting the perfect tablescape, in fact, I have my top five essentials for the perfect summer table.

5 Essentials for the Perfect Summer Table Setting:
When creating your summer table, one thing I discovered in Europe is color. It seems like we are hitting an “all white” trend or neutral trend in the United States. Our outdoor pillows to cushions, tableware and floral arrangements seem to be white on white. However, after spending time in Europe I am reminded to NOT be intimidated by color. This summer, when setting your perfect summer table, go for it, have fun, mix and match, add color, and be creative.
1. Use Your Garden To Add Floral Touches
The best part of summer is being able to cut fresh florals from your own yard and use them to design a beautiful table. I didn’t have too many florals blooming recently when I had a Sunday brunch, instead I used a lot of my greenery and then placed them in vintage colored glassware. Now, having been inspired by the gardens of Monet in Givenchy, go for color. Mix all your floral colors together.

2. Use Lanterns To Add Height and Bring in Metals
Whenever I see a good deal on lanterns I grab them at stores to estate sales, these are great to have on hand to set the perfect summer table.

3. Mix and Match All Your Table Settings
Don’t feel like you have to go buy new plates, napkins, or glassware. Just use all the different colors and styles you have already and alternate them on the table. Go ahead and bring out those colorful throw blankets and linens and then use them on the table or on chairs.

4. String Overhead Lighting
If you are going to purchase anything this summer for your summer table, let it be overhead lights. They are not expensive, I promise. You can find them online or better yet, Costco sells a big box of these for under $30.

5. Consider a table and no chairs
In London I have seen people head to the parks and throw down a few different blankets, nothing matching, then placing a picnic table to set a up a beautiful spread. At home you can use coffee tables, and yes, I am bringing this concept home with me for my next backyard gathering.
